One Cell
On a humid night before the monsoon, Hsieh Chung-ming, the labor union's occupational health and safety officer at Wei-ching Precision Chemicals—a semiconductor supplier in the Hsinchu Science Park—was found dead of cardiac arrest at dawn. The night before, he had spilled a bottle of cleaning dilution solution on himself while handling it, rinsed off at the sink, changed clothes, and continued his records for over four hours before collapsing. What he had been drenched in was a solution nearly ten times the concentration indicated on the bottle's label. What went into that bottle has already been determined. What remains is to discover what the hand that filled it saw and overlooked. Interrogate the five people whose hands touched the subdivision process—where chemicals from large drums are portioned into smaller bottles.
