Locked Cold

Yang Hyeon-sik, secretary of the frozen logistics labor union preparatory committee, was found dead from oxygen deprivation in a low-oxygen refrigeration chamber—a sealed facility compartment designed to trap cold air—at an automated frozen logistics sub-terminal. Late that night, he had entered the chamber to verify that the emergency release mechanism opened and closed properly, and the terminal was operating normally even immediately after the incident. There were no malfunctions in the cooling and nitrogen systems, and the chamber had been sealed according to shift-end procedures—except the emergency release mechanism, which was supposed to open from inside, did not open. Interrogate the five people involved in this death and determine whose hand locked that chamber.

Exhibits

  • Control Operations Log and Settlement Records

Shift and operating hour assignments and settlement records extracted from the late-night logistics app's control console—an operation panel with screens for controlling machinery. Assignment details and settlements are completely filled in, with no apparent operational defects on the surface.

  • Frozen Chamber Closing/Sealing Operation Log

One sealing operation at the time of the incident remains in the frozen chamber closing console's operation log. Nothing appears particularly out of order compared to usual shift-end sequences.

  • Other Zone Refrigerant System Inspection Log

Refrigerant system inspection log left by the refrigeration equipment technician that late night. Refrigerant pressure inspection work in another zone was scheduled for the day of the incident.
