Frequently asked questions

Payments & refunds

  • What do I get when I pay?
The entitlement to the case file bundle is granted to your account the moment payment completes, so you can open it right away. Unless otherwise specified, the validity period of the entitlement is perpetual, and you may view the content repeatedly during that period. The entitlement belongs to the purchasing account and cannot be transferred, lent, or exchanged for cash.
  • Who sells the content and how are payments processed?
Payments made inside the Republic of Korea are sold by Maxsoft and processed through a domestic payment gateway. Orders placed outside Korea are sold by Paddle.com Market Ltd as Merchant of Record; Paddle handles payment processing, the assessment, collection and remittance of taxes, and refunds and chargebacks, and the Paddle Buyer Terms also apply. Even in that case, Maxsoft remains responsible, as the provider and licensor of the content, for the provision of the Service itself.
  • Can I get a refund?
If you have not commenced use, you may withdraw and receive a full refund within 7 days of the purchase date, with no reason required (14 days for residents of the EU, EEA and the UK). “Commencement of use” means beginning to use the content, such as viewing a case included in the bundle for the first time or starting an interrogation. Once you have commenced use, withdrawal is restricted for that case. However, for a bundle composed of several cases that can be used divisibly, such as an arc pack or a season pass, the restriction applies only to the individual cases whose use you have commenced, and cases not yet commenced are refunded on a pro rata basis. Refunds for defects or errors, and payments made by minors, are exceptions to this restriction and are covered in the items below. See the Refund and Withdrawal Policy for the full conditions.
  • A defect stopped me from using what I bought. Can I get a refund?
Where the Paid Content you purchased differs from what was indicated or advertised, or cannot be used normally due to a defect or error in the Service, you may withdraw and request a refund regardless of whether use has commenced and regardless of the country of payment. Make the request within 30 days from the date you became aware, or could have become aware, of the fact, and within 3 months from the date the content was supplied; the Company will confirm the defect or error and then take necessary measures such as a refund without delay.
  • A minor made a payment. Can it be cancelled?
Where a member who is a minor makes a payment without the consent of their legal representative, the minor or their legal representative may cancel the payment in accordance with Article 5 of the Korean Civil Act, and the Company refunds the price for the cancelled payment. However, cancellation may be restricted where, for example, the minor used deception to make others believe that the legal representative's consent had been obtained or that the minor was an adult. A legal representative may submit, through a customer inquiry, documents evidencing their relationship to the payer and the payer's minority, and request cancellation and refund.
  • How do I request a refund?
For payments made inside Korea, you may apply through the channels listed in the Refund and Withdrawal Policy — the customer inquiry email and the customer centre telephone — and the 1:1 inquiry on the Support page is also accepted. The contact details are given on the Refund and Withdrawal Policy page. Refunds are issued to the original payment method as a rule, within 5 business days of the request being received. For payments made outside Korea, file the request with Paddle, the Merchant of Record, through its buyer support desk at paddle.net.

Account

  • How do I sign in?
Sign in with your Google account. Once signed in, you can set a password in the security settings and then sign in with your email and password as well. Signing in saves your play history.
  • Can I change my nickname?
A nickname is assigned automatically when you sign up, and changing it during onboarding is free. After that you can change it while you still have a free change left; the remaining count is shown on your profile page.
  • What happens if I delete my account?
You can delete your account at the bottom of your profile page. Your account and personal data are destroyed without delay, except where they must be retained under applicable law, and destroyed data cannot be restored. Data subject to retention is stored separately from other personal data: records concerning contracts and withdrawal of subscription and concerning payment and the supply of goods are kept for 5 years, records concerning consumer complaints and dispute resolution for 3 years, and the email address of a withdrawn member who has a payment history for 5 years from the withdrawal date in order to identify the parties to those transaction records. The email address of a withdrawn member with no payment history is also kept separately for 5 years from the withdrawal date. Records of consent to the terms of service, this privacy policy, etc., are kept for 5 years from the withdrawal date whether or not you have a payment history; they serve as evidence of the fact, time and subject document of the consent given, and do not contain information by which you can be directly identified, such as an email address or a name. Where no statute requires us to retain them — the email address of a member with no payment history, and the consent records — you may request their deletion or the suspension of their processing at any time. Any entitlements you hold are forfeited, and refunds of amounts already paid follow the Refund and Withdrawal Policy. Play history is kept after its link to your member account has been severed.

Gameplay

  • How does the game work?
Pick a case and the interrogation begins. You question the suspects directly, collect their statements, press on the places where their stories disagree, and finally name the culprit. There are no preset choices — type your question or use the microphone button.
  • How are turns spent?
One question costs one turn. Examining an exhibit and confronting a suspect with another's statement each cost one turn as well (re-examining the same exhibit is free). Dictating with the microphone costs nothing — the turn is spent only when you send. If no reply comes back, no turn is deducted. When the turns run out the interrogation ends and only the accusation is left.
  • Can I play for free?
The tutorial and the onboarding case are free. Daily cases are free once you sign in — one per day, and the limit resets at midnight Korea Standard Time (KST). Season case files are paid.
  • Can I retry if I accuse the wrong person?
An accusation cannot be taken back. Revealing the answer before you accuse also marks the case as forfeited, and it cannot be retried. Spend your turns carefully and interrogate to the end before you name anyone.
